STOP MOTION—— Chris Nash Dance Photography Exhibition and Workshops

Chris's knack for interpreting a choreographer's ideas into powerful and gripping images has earned him much admiration. After dedicating over 20 years to documenting the modern dance scene, Chris was awarded a Dance Umbrella prize for 'helping to make the face of dance more recognizable'.

Chris has held over 40 exhibitions of his dance photographs in 20 different countries and has worked with a number of world renowned dance companies and choreographers.

The real skill of the photographer lies in the ability to make the image suggest more. It is to give us a full story, not just a thin sliver of fact. And the real ability of the viewer is to have the imagination to look further into the picture and see what might be possible.

Looking at some of Chris Nash's photographs, this process begins to take place. Like portraits, where we read into the personality and experience of the sitter, we piece together what the figure represents. Unlike portraits, the actual identity of the sitter is not the main concern - the 'personal' experience we are contemplating is a creative fiction.
