Instructor Biography
Mary Cochran (U.S.A)

Department of Dance Chair and Associate Professor of Professional Practice at Barnard College of Columbia University, Mary Cochran has performed and taught on every continent except Antarctica . A soloist with Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1984-1996, Ms. Cochran is renowned as ¡°an interpreter of Paul Taylor's work who absorbs technique into her bones,¡± ¡°blithe spirit, weaver of magic, quintessential muse,¡± and ¡°a star, indeed.¡± She continues her association with Paul Taylor to this day having completed 19 restagings of his masterworks and as Director of the Paul Taylor School 's Summer and Winter Intensives. Cochran continues to be a special guest artist with Sara Hook Dances and with David Parker and The Bang Group with which she appeared in December 2004 for a long run at Dance Theater Workshop. Cochran has taught at numerous colleges and conservatories including Mills College , the Juilliard School , University of Michigan , Harvard University , and the North Carolina School of the Arts. She received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin/Milwaukee in May of 2005.
Ma Shouze (U.S.A)

Ma Shouze was a founding member of Guangdong Modern Dance Company and presently an Associate Professor at Arizona State University . He was awarded a scholarship to study at the Leban Dance Centre. He also established his own dance studio in Minnesota and has very much engaged into the teaching of dance since 2000.
Keriguy Philippe( France)
Keriguy Philippe, born in Athen , Greece in 1967. He studied at Paris Opera Dance School from 1980-1987. Then he joined the Paris Opera and the Nantes . After 7 years as a professional dancer, he taught Ballet, Jazz and technique at Nantes Dance Centre from 1994-1998. He was a d ance t eacher of Hyere Public School for Music and Dance Art until 2003.
Lin Chao Jung (Tai Wan)

Lin ChaoJung was born in Taiwan . She graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts ( HK APA), then joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in 1997. She danced, choreographied and helped rehearse major works for the company. Jung currently is the Deputy Artist ic Director of Bihua Dance Company. She is also dance instructor at Hong Kong Education College and Ho Lap Middle School.
Long Yunna(Guangzhou)

A prominent dancer, choreographer, Yunna is a graduate from Wuhan Drama School of Chinese Dance in 1987. After 5 years as a professional dancer in Hubei Song and Dance Theatre, she joined Guangdong Modern Dacne Compay in 1992 until 2005. She has won major prizes of modern dance around the world, like Second prize for Modern Dance Soloists (female) of the 7th Paris Internation al Modern Dance Competition in 1996. Yunna is engaged more in teaching in the recent years. She teaches at Guangdong Dance School, Guangzhou Ballet Company, Wuhan Music and Dance Theatre, Guangzhou Arts Center etc. Long is currently the Artist ic Director of Yunna Studio.
Hu Xiao(Guangzhou)

Hu Xiao grew up in Hubei . He was a professional dancer for ten years before enrolling in the Sun Yat Sun University in Guangzhou to a diploma program in modern dance. He graduted in 2004 and then awarded a scholarship to study at the H K APA. He is currently a n independent dancer and choreographer.
Alessandro Carboni ( Italy)

An m ultidisciplinary artist, Carboni shares his different expertise between exploration of the body and movement and the relation with space, employing anthropology, mathematics, art and history of calculation . During 2006-2008, Carboni travels to South Asia, China and the Middle East. This geographic-sentimental exploration help ed him trace a path for the construction of new choreographic ideas. "ABQ - mechanical extensions in four arithmetic operations" is a research project that aim s to investigate the ¡°number Zero¡± during the processes of choreographic composition. He teaches "Methodology and Performance Practice" at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design in London, while at the same time working as choreographer and dancer with OOFFOURON/N.P.A. Officina Ouroboros.
Annick Charlot (France)

Annick Charlot danced in the Compagnie Hallet-Eghayan between 1987 and 1995. In 1996 she created her first choreography. She founded the Compagnie ACTE in 2000. She is currently working on the 8th Arrondissement parade for the 2008 Biennale de la Danse. Annick devotes much of her artistic energy to private educational representations, outreach in public institutions and studio training sessions.
Antje Pfundtner( Germany)

Antje Pfundtner studied modern dance at the Amsterdam School of the Arts. Following a scholarship period of study in New York , she has worked on various independent projects including most recently with David Hernandez, Tony Vezich and the Magpai Production Group in Hamburg . Her first two works ¡°¨¹berMutter¡± und ¡°Das h?ngt davon ab¡± were both shown at Kampnagel. She was awarded a place in the danceWEB Scholarship in Vienna in 2002 and 2003. ¡°eigenSinn¡± is her first evening length solo and was premiered at Kampnagel/Hamburg. In 2004 the production was shown with big sucess in several dance festivals all over the world.
Csaba Buday £¨ Australia £©

Graduate of the Australian Ballet School , Csaba has had an extensive career as a performer, choreographer and teacher spanning over 24 years. He has worked with many of Australia's leading professional dance companies (Ballet and Contemporary) performing numerous works by notable Australian and International choreographers including world acclaimed dance maker William Forsythe (Forsythe Company and Frankfurt Ballet). Between 2000 and 2003 Csaba held the position of Artist-in-Residence at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Csaba joined Creative Industries Dance Faculty, QUT, as Lecturer in Contemporary Dance and Resident Choreographer in July 2003 and in April 2007 was admitted to the degree of Master of Arts (Research).
Kim Yong- C hul £¨ Korea £©

Choreographer Kim Yong-chul was born in Korea and started dancing in 1985. He danced for the Seoul Metropolitan Dance Company from 1990-1994 and was named Rising Artist by the Seoul Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He also studied in New York City through a scholarship from the Korea Culture and Art Promotion Institute.
Kim graduated from Kei-Myung University with a B.A. in dance, and received a PhD from the Graduate School of Sejong University in 2007.
Susan Leclerq(Australia)

Associate Lecturer - Sue has been a dance teacher at Queensland University of Technology ¨C Creative Industries / Dance since 1989. Sue's ballet training commenced in Brisbane with Patricia MacDonald and then on to the Australian Ballet School under the direction of Dame Margaret Scott. In 2002, Sue returned to the stage as a mature artist with the Royal Ballet Company performing walk on roles within Swan Lake .
In 2006 Sue was invited to teach master classes in ballet and pointe at the Hong Kong Dance Festival.
Aaron Wan (Hong Kong)

Aaron Wan received his university education in America and earned several Master degrees, including Engineering, Business Administration, and finally Dance from the UCLA. It is in dance where Wan became fascinated with the phenomenon of human movement. He sees dance not only as a performance art but also a powerful means to provide direct kinesthetic understanding of the self. He is a veteran choreographer, a teacher, and a keen researcher of human movement theory. Aaron had been on the faculty of dance at the HK APA for 22 years. He is a certified teacher in both Laban Movement Analysis and Skinner Releasing Technique.
In 1994 when he founded Manna Dance, his ambition is to create works to reveal the significance of dance and its value as an inherent means of human expression within a culture and society. He is well known for his ability to create rich atmosphere filled with expression that is marked with humanism that touches one's deeply rooted emotions. His full-length works include Songs of the Autumn , Labyrinth, The Half and Half Songs, Fleeting Shadows, Undo, and Private Landscape.
Wu Yi - san £¨ Tai wan £©

Yi - san graduated from The National Institute of the Arts in Taiwan and joined Cloud g ate Dance Theatre in 1994. She joined CCDC in 1996 and became a member of South ¡®ASLI' Dance Workshop from 1996 to 2001. She has toured with CCDC and Cloud g ate Dance Theatre to American, Germany , United Kingdom , Singapore , France , Israel , Denmark , Australia , India , et c . In 2000, she received Hong Kong Dance Awards from Hong Kong Dance Alliance. In 2003 and 2006 she was listed in ¡° Hong Kong Dance Hall of Fame¡± .
Li YongJing £¨ Hong Kong £©

Graduated from Guangdong Dance School in 1997 majoring in Chinese Dance, Li was enrolled into HKAPA to study Modern Dance in the same year. In 2001, Li was awarded Hong Kong Dance Alliance Dance Award for her performance in Interiors . After graduation from HKAPA in 2002 (with Distinction), she taught at Guangdong Dance School Modern Dance Diploma Program until 2004. Then she joined Odyssey Dance Theatre in Singapore in April 2004 as Artist in Residence. Jing has profound experience in performance and choreography. During the time in HKAPA, she represented the Academy in numerous overseas performances, including those in France , Germany , Singapore , Austria , Belgium , etc. Her outstanding performances received unanimous recognition. Jing has also work ed with the Hong Kong Dance Company, CCDC and E-side Modern Dance Company, etc. She is currently studying for a Master Degree in Dance and is a freelance dancer, teacher and choreographer.
Rebecca Wong Mei Yuk £¨ Hong Kong £©

Rebecca was an active member in the Transitions Dance Company when studying at the Laban Dance School . She received a scholarship from the Hong Kong Jockey Club - Music and Dance Fund in 2003-04. She gained her First Class Honours Degree in Fine Arts from the HKAPA, majoring in Contemporary Dance. She has worked with Bode Lawal Sakoba Dance Theatre, CCDC Dance Center , Unlock Dancing Plaza , Tap Ensemble, ABA productions ¡°Peter Pan Musical¡±, E-side Modern Dance Company, Tumble Dance Company.
Chen Xiewei(Guangzhou)

Chen Xiewei studied Ballet and graduated from Guangdong Dance School . He later joined the Guangzhou Ballet Company in 1999. He joined G uangdong Modern Dance Company in 2000 and has since then toured with the company in many international art s festivals and cultural exchange performances including Festival of China at the Kennedy Centre, Dance Salad in Houston , U.S.A. , and tours in Belarus , Canada , Denmark and Italy etc.
Yan Xiaoxiao(Guangzhou)

Yan graduated from Sun Yat Sun University , majored in Arts Management . She is resident instructor at GMDC Training Centre. Her l atest choreographed works include: Status ¡¢ 198312010023 . She has also taken part in Take O ur O wn R oad ¡¢ Red W hite B lue ¡¢ ¡¾ Non ¡¿ existentialism:Piayhouse¡¤Blue Picasso as dancer.
Ouyang Wenliang(Guangzhou)

A dancer, teacher, and choreographer, Ouyang Wenliang danced with the Hubei Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theatre in 1989 and the Dance Ensemble of Shanghai Opera House in 1999. He danced with the Guangdong Modern Dance Company from 2001 to 2005. He retired from the stage in that year to become a teacher at the GMDC Training Centre, and he now manages the GMDC Training Centre.
Xing Liang (Hong Kong)

Born in Beijing , Xing Liang graduated in classical dance from the Beijing Dance Academy in 1991. Xing participated in the International Choreographers Residency Programme in the American Dance Festival in 1996. He formed Movement Fiber with Sang Jijia and choreographed Happening Continuous in 2000. Xing is currently the Resident Artist of CCDC.
Sang Jijia (Guangzhou)

Sang Jijia graduated from the Beijing Central Universtiy for Nationlities. He was a dancer with the Guangdong Modern Dance Company in 1993-1998 and won the gold prize in the Male section of the Pairs International Modern Dance Competition in 1996, named ¡°Star across the Cent u ry ¡± in 1997. In 2002, Sang was chosen by the Rolex Mentor and Prot¨¦g¨¦ Arts Initiative Program to study choreograph y under William Forsythe in Germany . H e stayed with the Forsythe Company as choreographer and dancer until 2006. Sang returned to China in 2006 and has since then choreographed impressive works for different companies in China . He is currently Resident Artist at Beijing Dance / LDTX.
Pun Siu-fai (Hong Kong)

Pun danced for the Hong Kong Dance Company before joining CCDC in 1985. In 1989, he received the Asian Council Fellowship and the Rotary International Scholarship to study dance in New York . Pun returned to CCDC in 1993 to develop the company's education and outreach programs. During this period, Pun established the Second Company of CCDC and produced the Podium Dance Project. In 1998, Pun embarked on a new project, Environmental Dance Series by Pun Siu-fai. In this project, he successfully transformed Hong Kong historical sites such as the Old Tai Po Market Railway Station, the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower¡. Pun is currently the artistic director of Guangdong Modern Dance Company, director of CCDC Dance Centre and advisor to various arts organizations .
Willy Tsao £¨ Hong Kong £©

Tsao has dedicated incessant efforts in the development of modern dance in China . He co-founded the first contemporary dance company, CCDC in Hong Kong in 1979. In September 1987, he started teaching modern dance in the Guangdong Modern Dance Experimental Troupe in Guangzhou and at the Beijing Dance Academy in the following year. Since 1995, he started conducting intensive modern dance workshops in different cities in China .
