Student Body
The Guangdong International Dance Camp is a training ground for advanced students: all participants should have at least three years of professional training on a college level. We expect that one-third of participants will come from Hong Kong, one-third from overseas, and one-third from mainland China .
The camp will provide both extended mentorship and exposure to a wide variety of experts. 140 students will be accepted to the program and then divided into groups of 20. Each group will be lead by a dedicated faculty mentor throughout the camp session. These faculty mentors will work intimately with their students, providing one-on-one feedback daily. In addition, students will study daily with many other international faculty and guest lecturers.
Curriculum
The camp aims to foster the development of creative, well-rounded dancers who excel technically, artistically, and intellectually. Four daily studio sessions will incorporate technique, composition, and repertory. Evening lectures and meet-the-artist sessions will deepen participants' knowledge of contemporary artistic practice and dance history. Saturdays are unstructured working days, when faculty mentors can decide how to focus their studio time.
Camp course offerings will include contemporary dance technique classes, compostion, repertory, yoga, and a range of Chinese physical practices, including tai chi, traditional dance forms, and acrobatics. Practical workshops will include topics such as stage makeup, lighting design, set design, and costume design.
The first week of the camp will overlap with the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival. During this time, camp participants will have the opportunity to attend all festival events, including the performances of over sixty dance works by young choreographers, the region's most established dance companies, and visiting companies from around the world.
